Senvariquen – Build a useful research question
M1

Build a useful research question

A focused question gives your research a purpose. Begin by describing what you want to understand, the information that might bear on it and what would count as a meaningful change in your view.

Keep the question open enough to challenge your initial idea. Looking for evidence that might contradict an assumption can reveal gaps that a one-sided search would miss.

M2

Read information with care

Separate what a source directly reports from the explanation or interpretation attached to it. Check the timing, context and limits of the information before relying on it in your reasoning.

When sources disagree, note where their methods, definitions or assumptions differ. A clear record of that disagreement can be more useful than forcing a conclusion before the evidence supports one.

M3

Use scenarios to inspect assumptions

A scenario gives you a structured way to ask how a different set of conditions could affect your analysis. Set out the assumptions plainly and compare the implications, rather than treating one path as the expected outcome.

Consider what the exercise leaves out. Scenarios cannot capture every future development, and their usefulness depends on the quality and limits of the assumptions you choose.

M4

Think in portfolio context

A holding does not exist in isolation from the rest of your investments or your own circumstances. Consider how it relates to your time horizon, existing exposure and the role you expect it to play in your overall plan.

These guides are general research resources, not a personal assessment or recommendation. Use them to frame questions, verify information and decide whether you need independent professional advice.
